RØDE Microphones has announced a new addition to its VideoMic Series with the VideoMic Pro+

This latest model is aimed at prosumer filmmakers and was first announced at RØDEShow 2017, Freedman Electronics 50th anniversary celebration. I had the first version of the VideoMic Pro and had to say that with being mounted to a DSLR camera it was great for Vlogging and close proximity to the mic.

RODE partnered a while back with Rycote a while back to offer the VideoMic Pro+ with Lyre suspension system on board, the VideoMic Pro+ improves on the existing VideoMic Pro capsule/line tube and windshield, along with a host of new features.

VideoMic Pro+ Battery Mods

A built-in battery door makes replacing the battery easier and far less cumbersome than previous VideoMic models. It used to take a good few minutes to both get the door off and back on properly on the first version. This combined with the mic automatically turning off when unplugged from the camera should make your battery last even longer.

Power options include the all-new and included RØDE LB-1 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery, 2 x AA Batteries or continuous charging via micro USB. This is also great from having to buy 9V batteries as many videographers and everyone in general for that matter will have easier access to the AA batteries.

The Actual VideoMic Pro+ Microphone

The microphones’ Digital Switching includes a 3-stage high pass filter to reduce low frequencies such as rumble from traffic or air conditioning, along with a 3-stage gain control with+20dB function. Additionally, its high frequency boost is designed to enhance detail and clarity in the recording while a safety channel helps to ensure the signal does not clip when unexpected spikes occur. This is probably similar technology to their Rode NTG4 and NTG4+ with button filters.

The VideoMic Pro+ ships with a 3.5mm TRS Cable, LB-1 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery and is now available from authorised RØDE dealers at an RRP of £289 (inc VAT).
