During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important that we shed light on the thing that affects so many of us, yet we’re often hesitant to talk about. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one in five adults will experience mental illness in any given year. That’s 43.8 million people, or about 18.5% of the total U.S. population. In other words, it’s A LOT of people. And even if you don’t experience mental illness, chances are you know someone who does. Still, stigma surrounding mental health often keeps us from talking about it, and sometimes even prevents people from getting treatment. That’s why it’s so important that we talk about mental health — so we can break down the stigma and make it easier for everyone to get help when they need it.
