PCM - Pulse Code Modulation

PCM - Pulse Code Modulation

PCM or pulse-code modulation is a method to digitally represent sampled analog signals. This is the standard system for digital audio in computers and various DVD, Blu-ray formats and in digital telephone systems. Each sample is quantized to the nearest value within a range of digital steps.
The two properties of PCM are the sample rate and the bit depth, this determines the number of digital values in the range.
