Documentary sound is all about moments. Clients first and foremost want you to capture dialogue of principle people in the documentary but they are also looking to sell atmosphere to the audience.
This is where I came up with an easy way to capture great clear dialogue on a mono signal and a stereo pair in the same blimp.
The idea is that for the dialogue pieces you can just use your normal shotgun or other mic for mono dialogue and then easily enable the Zoom H1 recorder for stereo of crowds or atmospheres.
It's very important to keep everything light and mobile in these run and gun scenarios so having a portable recorder with 96K/24 bit will also keep any post house happy.
