Dry ice is actually solid carbon dioxide the gives off lovely screams and rings like extreme versions of scratching 2 polystyrene boards together. This is commonly used for alien voices or parts of buildings collapsing, with sound design you can sneak it in anywhere. An expensive luxury for most, at around £42 for 5kg that you can watch melt away in minutes. If you don't like the sound of it then don't watch the dry ice video below.
As you can see from the video there are a number of cool effects and places in your sound edit to use this. I personally would use it in robots and other scrapes from massive behemoths or titans.
